About Dashain
Bada Dashain is the longest and biggest Hindu festival in Nepal. It lasts fifteen days, from the first day of the bright lunar fortnight in Ashwin or Kartik (Ghatasthapana) to the full moon (Kojagrat Purnima).
Jamara (barley shoots) is sown on Ghatasthapana, the goddess Durga is worshipped during Navaratri, Fulpati is brought in on the seventh day, and on Vijaya Dashami people receive tika, jamara and blessings from their elders. Dashain celebrates the victory of good over evil.
