About Maghe Sankranti (Maghi)
Maghe Sankranti on Magh 1 marks the day the sun enters Makara (Capricorn) in the sidereal zodiac. People eat ghee, chaku, sesame laddu, yam and sweet potato.
The Tharu community celebrates it as Maghi, their new year. Ritual bathing and fairs take place at Devghat and other pilgrimage sites.
